John Cronin has been affiliated with Pace University since 1985. He is senior fellow for environmental affairs at the Pace Academy for Applied Environmental Studies, editor of EarthDesk, the blog of the Dyson College Institute for Sustainability and the Environment, and managing faculty member of the Pace Environmental Policy Clinic. He is best known for his groundbreaking work as Hudson Riverkeeper, for which Time Magazine named him a “Hero for the Planet.” He has also served as a district project coordinator for Congressman Hamilton Fish, Jr., legislative aide to New York State Assemblyman Maurice Hinchey, a lobbyist and commercial fisherman. He is the co-founder of the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic, and the Environmental Consortium of Colleges and Universities, and the founding director and CEO of the Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries at Clarkson University. He co-authored The Riverkeepers with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., has written numerous Op Eds for The New York Times, and wrote and co-produced The Last Rivermen, cited as an outstanding documentary of 1991 by the Motion Picture Academy Foundation. His many awards include an honorary Juris Doctor from Pace Law School, the William A. Ricker Award from the American Fisheries Society, and a Jefferson Gold Award, founded as the "Nobel Prize for Public Service" by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
